No, really, I won't fight!

The above letter is one that Russell's cousin wrote on May 12, 1960.....I'm going to type it out so you can actually read it because it is the most hilarious letter ever written.

This is the actual letter word for word. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Dear Pappy,

I love you very much. I will do what ever you say. And I want to do what Grandma tells me. I am glad to come and see you all. I hope I will not give you any tuble (her spelling). I will not fuss with you are (her spelling) fight with Jim. I will be nice to you and Grandma and Jim. I love you very much. I will eat when you tell me too. I will do music when ever you want me too. I will turn off T.V. when ever you want me to. I will eat dinner when I'm supposed to. I will eat breakfast when you want me to. I will take a bath when you tell me to. I will wake up early in the morning and set the table.

I will eat my supper when you want me to. I will play nice with L.C. (I think he was one of their worker's sons). I will do what ever y'all want me to. I will not fight with L.C. or Russell (my husband). I will play nice with Russell. I like Russell very much. I will be nice to mother and daddy. I love you very much.

I will play nice with every body. I love you and Jim and Russell and Grandma and mother and daddy and Jane and Bill and me. I love you Very very very much.

Love,

Corine

Apparently, Corine, was a very bad little girl who loved to fight! And apparently, Pappy and Grandma put up with no foolishness. Jim, Jane and Bill were her brothers and sister.

We found this letter after Russell's grandma died at age 107.

During the time this letter was written, Pappy and Grandma lived on a huge acreage was up in the woods. Their house was in what they called and I'm assuming was a little community, Red Head.

All the children loved to go there. Russell says his happiest memories are of being there and that his grandma spoiled them all!

I think this letter was written because she had been told she couldn't go up, so she got busy telling Pappy how nice she would be. When I first read this letter, I laughed harder than I think I ever have before. Corine couldn't have been more than 10 years old because she was a little older than Russell.

It's true, kids say the darndest things!

I promise........

..........that I will NEVER mess with my template again until I've taken a computer blogging class and since I do not see that in the near future....I won't be messing with the controls!

Happy days are here again! With a hint from Holley and somehow finding some help on the new template page, which I could probably not go back to if I wanted, my stuff is back! Whew......it's surprising how a little thing can change your whole outlook on the day.

So, with that thought I thought I would show you some pictures of my mama's Christmas door! I'm almost too sorry busy to decorate at home, so mama's was going to be really behind. One of her sweet caretakers decorated much better than I ever would!

Here's her door and beside her door. The milk can stays outside her door all year long and serves as a little table for whichever season's decorations sit. The white strange santa sitting on it, I found several years ago at the ever clever T.J. M*xx. Angela, her caretaker, bought the little light up snowman and decorated the door with wrapping paper and other stuff that obviously I can't name.

I'm just stunned at house fast Christmas is coming. I have to mail packages to California! Oh, dear, I'd better get busy with that boxing and mailing!

My favorite Christmas decoration

This ornament tree is one of my favorite ways to decorate at Christmas. Each year since DH and I started dating and every anniversary since our marriage, I have given myself him one of these crystal ornaments. Each year as I take them out of the box and place them on this ornament tree, I say a prayer of thanksgiving for another year with DH.

I try to remember the high points of each year....but really, since I can't remember what happened 10 minutes ago, that's getting harder each year.

I like my decorations to be meaningful and this ornament tree with each ornament is very special and meaningful to me, and even though I resisted the decorating this year, I'm glad this tree is up and sparkling!

You could see the ornaments a lot better if I hadn't put the little trees around it, but I don't have time to go back and take another picture right now!

And (I know you're not supposed to start a sentence with and) since it's a small miracle that I can even post pictures at this point, I'm just grateful. I still haven't found most of my blog, but I don't mind, really. :(

Oh, Christmas tree...

The husband was pleasantly surprised to come home to a decorated tree last night! I'm sure he expected me to moan and groan until he helped me....but after all, he did put the tree up, so it was only right that I should decorate. I also got some other decorations out, but those pictures will have to come later.

One tree, only one tree....I've seen that a lot of you have more than one and obviously you're much more industrious than me, myself or I! We are all lazy!

It's warm today in Florida! It was cool yesterday, pretty cold last night (for Florida) and warm and humid today. We are supposed to get rain and then cold again.

I sort of envy those of you that get snow, but just sort of because I can't imagine driving and doing all the stuff people have to do everyday in the snow!

Dear Prayer Warriors....

I really just want to tell a funny story or show cute pictures of my dogs and cats, but this week has been really sad!

This is my dear friend , her son and granddaughter. You may remember her from this post. She has been through a lot of stuff in her life and is now standing by her son's side in the ICU as he struggles for his life.

Several years ago, he was injured in a diving accident and is now quadriplegic...he has apparently contracted an infection and his liver has completely shut down. Linda, my friend, is asking for prayer that his liver will begin to function.

About 20 years ago, she lost her youngest son to leukemia and that's not even the half of what she's been through.

Yet, her faith and her sense of humor remains strong and intact. Today I saw her cry for the first time in many years. I went in and spoke for a moment to her son, a young man I've known all his life and it just broke my heart.

Let me tell you a funny story about him and my son David, so you'll get to know him a little better. Many, many years ago, we were at the state park with her sons and my sons. Matt, this son, and David, my son, had been walking the beach looking for treasures. They came back to our blanket with a beach ball and we sternly told them that if they found something on someone else's blanket not to touch it.....we went back to sun bathing. A little while later we looked and here they came down the beach. Each holding one handle of a cooler.

Of course, we jumped up in horror to make this wrong right, when they very calmly explained that the cooler WAS NOT ON A BLANKET! We still laugh about that story to this day.

When she asked me to get the prayer request out to anyone, I immediately knew the prayer warriors of the world would lift Matt up to God's throne of mercy!

Seems like this has been a sad week around our town. Thank you for your prayers!

Lost for a title

I'm really lost for a title for this post. After a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner, my husband and two of our sons went hunting for 2 days. Off to the pasture in our motor home. No meat for the freezer but they had a good time.

It was a really nice, laid back weekend with the men in the woods and my DIL here with me, no way to know what would come just a few days later.

On Tuesday of this week, we heard that my nephew's MIL, Lani, died. This nephew and niece hosted the Thanksgiving dinner. Jennie's mother was there and seemed fine. We all talked and laughed the way you do at family functions with not a thought of losing any one there in a few days. Then Tuesday, Lani wasn't answering her phone and her daughter went over and found she had never gotten out of bed, apparently dying in her sleep.

What a shock. We, in our family, all too well understand that, as our dad died suddenly and very unexpectedly. So our thoughts and prayers are with Jennie and all this family.

Mike and Jennie last Christmas

Jennie's mama, Lani, also last Christmas

Then today when I was checking on Stephanie Vest, a young woman who has been fighting a battle for her life, I saw she died last evening.

It so reinforces the fact that our lives are short on this earth and we need to live them knowing that we are not promised another breath on this earth.

Please keep these families in your prayers. Thanks!
